Our story

The firm

R.E.S. Sales Professionals was founded in 2003 by Dick Stearns to fill a gap he saw in the data-communications market: a responsive and effective professional sales organization that could bridge manufacturers and specifiers without the overhead of a national distributor.

Headquartered at 4652 Gee Brook Rd, Cincinnatus, NY, the firm is positioned to serve New York, Eastern Pennsylvania, and New Jersey. The markets we serve are primarily data, telecommunications, and electronics, with consistent work in industrial, commercial, and specialty OEM segments as well.

The line card has been intentionally narrowed over time to three manufacturers — Cinch Connectivity (Stewart Brand), Optical Cable Corp., and Quabbin Wire & Cable — chosen for depth of technical fit across fiber, copper, connectors, assemblies, and harsh-environment work. Fewer lines means deeper knowledge of each, and tighter relationships with the engineering teams behind them.

Dick Stearns has over 40 years working in the data-communications industry. Before founding R.E.S. in 2003, he spent the first half of his career directly inside the wire and cable manufacturers we now represent — in engineering and management positions that gave him a first-hand understanding of the critical interface between manufacturer, rep, and customer.

That inside-the-factory perspective is what R.E.S. sells. When a specifier asks what a cable can actually do — not what the spec sheet says, but where the real limits are — Dick has the engineering relationships to get the answer.

He is a 30+ year member of BICSI (Building Industry Consulting Service International), where he has delivered numerous presentations on cabling standards and best practices. His philosophy at R.E.S. emphasizes service, quality, and a commitment to both the customer and the manufacturers represented — no shortcuts on either side of the relationship.

Why a rep agency

The role of the rep

A manufacturer's rep provides the bridge between product manufacturers and the buyers who need them. Unlike a distributor, a rep agency offers deep technical product knowledge, direct manufacturer relationships, and local market expertise — all at no additional cost to the buyer.

With R.E.S., you get a partner who understands your application requirements, can recommend the right product for the job, and has the manufacturer relationship to support you from specification through delivery. No extra markup, no distribution-channel friction, no anonymous call-center hand-offs.

For questions that go beyond the published spec sheet, we have the factory engineers on the other end of the line.

Since 2003

A portfolio narrowed by choice.

R.E.S. has represented many manufacturer lines over two decades. Dick has intentionally narrowed the portfolio to three — Cinch (Stewart Brand), Optical Cable Corp., and Quabbin — where depth of technical fit, local territory rights, and long-standing engineering relationships deliver the most value to customers.
